Newquay Beach DIY Wedding – Lusty Glaze Cornwall
When Lisa and Lewis got married they wanted to keep things simple and shunned a lot of venues because they were too traditional and lacking in personality. They venue they picked was perfect for a beach wedding - Lusty Glaze in Cornwall.
Newquay and Cornwall have always been a special place for both our families. We each holidayed here when we were younger and since being together Lewis and I visit the area every year for our own holiday.
What did you DIY?
Everything! We had no on the day vendors and everything was self-styled/created. I created the florals for the cake from the left-over blooms from the florist along with sourcing the centre piece creations. My bridesmaid Laura created the signs and place cards. The sweet stall, polaroid booth and glitter bar were all self-sourced and either used things we already owned or borrowed. We tried to limit the number of things we bought new as didn’t want lots of leftover waste!
Doing everything DIY does increase the amount you have to do but with the help from everyone and seeing everything on the day come together it’s all worth it!
How did you keep it true to you?
When it came to planning our wedding, we didn’t want to feel like there were elements we had to do just because they were associated with a traditional wedding.
For this reason, we kept the ceremony short with the minimal words required to complete the legal process! Neither of us like being centre of attention so standing in front of everyone was initially a bit daunting!
We also omitted a few other typical wedding features such as not cutting the cake, we didn’t have a first dance and speeches were pre-recorded instead of on the day to ensure no one felt anxious/nervous and everyone could relax and enjoy themselves.
Who was your photographer?
HBA Photography – Ben and Hannah were an absolute dream to work with. Everything from the initial emails and coffee catch ups to on the day and even post wedding contact these guys were just incredible every step of the way!
As soon as we found their profile we instantly fell in love with their style and images, and how could you not they are stunning!
As a couple Lewis and I are not necessarily comfortable in front of the camera but their advice and guidance through the whole process was amazing. They capture beautiful ‘in the moment shots’ and help you relax into the more styled ones and you end up with a superb collection of photos to remember your day through.
Trying to cut them down to the ones for the album is an impossible task but even at this stage they are on hand to help guide you through choosing how to build the story of your day through the images.
Honestly just a dream couple to work with.
REAL moments
- After the ceremony when we went down to the beach for the confetti moment, the clouds cleared, and the sun started shining and seeing all our friends and families on the beach with sunglasses and smiles ready to celebrate the day away with us was just magical.
- Also the relentless rounds of shots that kept appearing in the evening! It certainly was a celebration!
- Sparklers on the beach as it started to drift into the evening 4. All of the amazing music played that constantly had people springing up on the dancefloor right until the end!
